This was a big one for us. Jerz has been working with the Baltimore Rock Opera Society for over a decade. Derek had found his start as a singer with the Baltimore Rock Opera Society’s MURDERCASTLE, which was also about to be celebrating its 10th anniversary. The rock opera was so impactful on our little DIY art community that we made a documentary about the whole glorious moment. They showed "how to make a rock opera" at one of our favorite Baltimore Rock Clubs: The Ottobar. We had the big downstairs hall to fill, but it was a big bill, and we had Artscape drawing people into town. Artscape was cancelled due to weather, but the 10 Year World Exposition carried on.
Patterson Trash opened, and we gave it everything we had. Sweat and smiles, baby. It was amazing to be up there for the first time. Derek sang with The Gold Night band, The Oh Sorrys second. A super group of Baltimore legends, lead by the gravitational Abbey Becker. Derek had a minor role in that season’s rock opera, partially in anticipation of the anniversary. The Murdercastle house band was called “The Onslaught Orchestra”, and most of its members still play or compose for epic Baltimore bands today.
